“Isabel!” Mom called. Isabel ran down the stairs.
“Yes, Mom?” Isabel asked.
“It is almost your birthday, dear.”
“Yes, it is! Maybe I could invite all of my friends. Can I print coloring pages of trains? We could make favors!” Isabel got more and more excited. She continued, and Mom nodded and said it was a good idea.
Katie was a blonde, poor little girl of about ten years old. She had been invited to Isabel’s birthday party. This is what her invitation said:
You are invited to my birthday party! Please bring crayons with you.
“Mom, the only crayons we have are broken!” Katie said when she had read the invitation.
“It’s okay, Katie. Broken crayons still color!” Her mom answered.
Katie sighed with relief. She went to find her crayons.
The next day her mom was taking her to Isabel’s birthday party.
The dining room was decorated beautifully. The table had a purple tablecloth, and there were pink flowers in a little basket hanging from the wall. The ceiling fan had streamers hanging from each blade. When they turned on the fan, the streamers formed a circle.
“Mom, the girls are starting to come.” Isabel said excitedly.
The first girl to come was Katie. She was dressed in a purple dress. She even had hoop skirts. Her mom had made both of these.
Next was Abby. She was a brown haired girl. She was in a blue dress with frilly ruffles everywhere.
Isabel had invited many more girls, but I don’t have enough time to describe all of them.
Each girl was greeted by Isabel and then the party began. Oh! What a delightful party it was. They played pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey, bobbing for apples, sack races, and they colored their train pictures. They ate delicious food.
